A Maybe Deserved Vacation

In two days time, my family and I will be waking up at the crack of dawn to hop onto an airplane and fly to the wonderful island of St. Lucia. Where as my parents deserve this wonderful trip, I'm not so sure I do when you look at my grades from this past semester. Oh well! I'll be beautiful bronzed when I get back to conquer this next semester.

Merry Christmas y'all!

The Book of Eli

My step dad, George, and I watched the Book of Eli last night for the first time and it got me thinking. Would this really happen?  Will our world become so engrossed with destroying the other because of a difference in culture that we will eventually destroy the world? I don't understand why some people can't except others for who they are, their background, how they were raised. People can't help what they were born into or where. If you were born into another culture you would probably view the one that you're in now in a different way.

Does that make any sense?

My life is granola...

Or I wish it was.

I absolutely love Patagonia, North Face, all of that good stuff. I was the first of my friends to go out and purchase a pair of Chacos and get weird stairs at everyone, which are by far the most comfortable and versatile shoe ever! I'm the one walking to class in Patagonia shorts, Chacos, a t shirt, and if possible some sort of North Face fleece, it's awesome. Even in high school I did this, and got questioned by my principal daily about what I was wearing (we had a strict dress code). I mean hey, if I'm going to suffer through class then I might as well be wearing something comfortable.

Anyways, my point is that I really want to go backpacking through the Patagonia Mountain Range at one point in my life. I'm trying to convince some of my friends to go, but, as always, are indecisive about the entire deal. So I'm making it one of my goals and I'm putting it on my blog so that I have written proof.

One day I will make it to the Patagonias. Just you wait and see.

...

You can have the worst crap in the world happen to you, but you can get over it.
All you gotta do is survive.

All you need is time.
Time to stand up.
Time to let go.
Time.

Just for You

Breathe (2 AM) by Anna Nalick

This song is on repeat on my iPod right now. It's a little old, but I still enjoy it. Every, Single, Verse.

I especially love this verse, so listen up.

"There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around."

For the Not Any Time Soon Future House

Oh no big deal. Just the brick floors and wonderful door. Add the wooden bench and it's a beautiful entry way.

Love of Music

I love music, but I probably have the worst collection ever, that's why I'm always hoarding music from my friends Tessa, Katie, Liz, and Annie. Annie probably has the best music collection of all time, from Portugal the Man to BassNectar, she's got it all. She's also the girl who loves music festivals. That's why in 2011, it is my goal to go to Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits. Anyone got tickets? cause I'm willing to pay and I really want to go. Also, does anyone have any suggestions or comments about a first-timer?? I'll take all the help I can get.

Can't wait.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Harry Potter is tonight! TONIGHT! I am so freaking excited. I am 19 years old and I can't wait to watch a movie about witches and wizards. My friends and I are getting to the theater at 10:00 PM to stand in line in order to get good seats- they think it's too early, I'm thinking it's too late. We shall see how the movie compares to the book, hopefully freaking awesome.

Summer 2011

I have a dilemma. I don't know what I want to do for Summer 2011. Basically, all I want to do with my life is just travel around the world and marvel at something, have my breath taken away by beauty or uniqueness or culture. So, naturally, one would assume I would want to study abroad. But here's the thing- where do I go?? I want to go everywhere! All over the world! I want to experience so many things! Maybe I should just forget school and learn the old fashion way- from books and people and experience. That should be my future.

I'm all over the place with this Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Australia, Thailand, Peru, Chile... the list is endless!!

Well, anyways, here is a fabulous picture of Venice, one of the many place I am dying to go to. Chao!

Technology

Sometimes I wish that certain technology hadn't been invented. I read my favorite books that all happen to be based in the 1800s and I find a twinge of jealousy developing as I read. Yes, it took them a long time to travel from place to place, or to contact one another, but that's the beauty of it. People wrote letters to one another; not hasty text messages or a Facebook post, but long, thought out, beautifully written letters. They were able to spill their secrets, their feelings, every emotion onto these pages, the truth just pouring out. To me, reading something on a screen may be truthful, but it doesn't feel real or personal. What happened to the passion?
I feel like Facebook is a downward spiral that sucks anyone in. You get updates on people that you'd rather not remember, ex-boyfriends, ex-friends etc. You think you're done with thinking about them then wham! a post on the News Feed about how that certain person is in a new relationship. Kind of like a slap in the face.
A few friends and I were watching A Lot Like Love, a romantic comedy from the 90's, and we were all cracking at the telephone scene- basically the two main characters were on land-lines and they kept getting interrupted by family members picking up the phone. One of my friends made the comment that they wished we didn't have cell phones, that funny things like this would happen if we didn't have them. Pause. Think. A life without cell phones. Our society has become so dependent upon them that we freak out if we are parted from this small piece of technology for more than a few hours, or should I dare say, a few minutes. Now, I'll admit that I'm constantly checking my emails on my phone, but it would be so nice if when walking to class I wasn't constantly getting beeped or buzzed. My friends and I kept laughing about how much trouble we would could get out of from not having a cell phone- no drunk texting, no drama, no butt dialing. Ahhh just imagine.
But how would our society move forward without all these technological advances? And hey, I'm a PR major so I should be loving all this stuff right? I guess it's all about moderation. Limiting oneself to Facebook, email, Twitter, and texting. But has it reached a point in our society that stopping or limiting is out of the question? And where do you begin with that? Where do you start to limit? If only I had the wonderful writers Jane Austen, Alexandre Dumas, and Charlotte Bronte to tell me what to do- to show me how to bring beauty back into communicating among others.

The Green Tex

So a friend of mine created this blog about how to make going green easier, it's called The Green Tex and it's so awesome. It gives you all this information about products that you can use in your every day life to help the environment. What I found really interesting was the fact that Americans dispose of 2.5 MILLION bottles of water per HOUR. Really? Really? I just find that straight embarrassing. Do you know how much plastic is floating in the Pacific Ocean in a giant current of muck??

So let's do our part, buy yourself a water bottle and drink your water the green way.

YOUR SUMMER 2011

Camp Ozark!!

I can not stress enough how much I love this place. This summer was probably one of the most physically and mentally challenging experience ever, but also the most rewarding. I have made so many life long friends and great relationship with people from across the country. Also, a plus is being able to serve kids and see them grow and change.

I CANNOT wait for SUMMER 2011! It's going to be awesome.

A New Beginning

I have a lot on my mind, and no way to say it. Everything gets jumbled up in my head and lost in the never ending waves of thoughts and ideas. So it's time to calm the seas and get everything out there. This is where I'll start.

Welcome to my blog- Thoughts of a Cluttered Mind.
